Former Honduran president sentenced to 45 years in prison on drug trafficking charges

Former Honduran President Juan Antonio Hernandez has been sentenced to 45 years in prison by a New York court on charges of drug trafficking. Known as Tony Hernandez, the former president was found guilty of smuggling tons of cocaine into the United States. He was accused of using drug trafficking to help fuel his political rise with the profits from his illicit activities. His sentencing marks a major victory in the U.S.’s efforts to crack down on international drug trafficking.
