Dozens of Indian nationals in Italy freed from ‘slave-like’ working conditions on farms, police say

Italian police have announced the release of dozens of Indian nationals who were allegedly kept in “slave-like” conditions on farms across the country. The workers reportedly endured long working hours, low pay, inadequate food, and lived in overcrowded accommodation. Many of them were in Italy on temporary work visas.

This extensive operation has placed a spotlight on Italy’s ‘agromafias’, criminal groups that exploit migrant labor for agricultural work. Several people have been arrested in connection with the illegal activity, facing charges of
